Documents for the Azerbaijan e-visa (ASAN Visa)

Indians visiting Azerbaijan for tourism need an e-visa issued through evisa.gov.az, the official portal. It is a single-entry visa that allows up to 30 days in the country. The portal asks you to type your details directly into the system rather than build a big document file. The e-visa arrives by email as an A4 form with a machine-readable code. The border officer still makes the final decision on entry.

Passport

  • An Indian passport that stays valid at least 3 months after the expiry date of your e-visa.
  • Your name, date of birth and passport number must be typed exactly as printed. An issued e-visa cannot be corrected.
  • The e-visa is linked to the passport number. If you get a new passport, you need a new e-visa.
  • Keep a few blank pages free for entry and exit stamps.

Application details on evisa.gov.az

  • Personal and passport details, entered directly into the online form.
  • Planned arrival date and trip details. Apply at least 3 working days before arrival for standard processing.
  • A working email address. The approved e-visa is sent there and can be re-printed from the portal if lost.
  • Families of 2 to 10 people can apply together. Groups of 10 to 300 people use the group option.

Government fee

  • Standard e-visa: USD 20 state fee plus a USD 9 portal service fee. Issued within 3 working days.
  • Urgent e-visa: issued within 3 hours, even on holidays and non-working days. The Azerbaijan Embassy in New Delhi lists the fee as USD 60.
  • Paid by card on the portal: Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay or JCB. The card does not need to be in the traveller's name.
  • The state fee is not refunded in any circumstances, including refusal.

Carry for immigration (not uploaded — shown only if the officer asks)

  • Printed copy of your e-visa. Keep a PDF on your phone as a backup.
  • A return or onward ticket that leaves Azerbaijan within your 30 days.
  • Your hotel booking or the address where you will stay.
  • Copies of your medical insurance papers. The Embassy of India in Baku asks Indian visitors to carry these.
  • If you hold more than one e-visa, leave Azerbaijan on the same one you used to enter.

Staying more than 15 days: registration

  • Foreigners staying in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days must register their place of stay with the State Migration Service.
  • Register within 15 days of arrival. If you move to a new address, register again within 5 working days.
  • Register online through the State Migration Service e-services or the MigAz app, by email to qeydiyyat@migration.gov.az, or in person at a regional migration office or ASAN service centre.
  • Registration has no state fee. Not registering in time leads to administrative penalties.

Common mistakes Indian travellers make

Most problems come from typing errors, timing, and assumptions about land borders.

  • Typing the passport number or name wrongly. Copy the details from the passport bio page and check twice before paying. A wrong e-visa cannot be edited, so you would need to apply and pay again.
  • Applying on a look-alike website. Use only evisa.gov.az. Other sites with similar names charge extra or never file the application.
  • Leaving it to the last day. Standard processing takes up to 3 working days. Apply a week ahead, or choose urgent processing, which is done within 3 hours even on holidays.
  • Planning to cross by road from Georgia. Ordinary land entry has stayed closed under Azerbaijan's special quarantine regime, now extended to 2 January 2027. Book a flight into Baku.
  • Forgetting to register on a longer trip. If you stay more than 15 days, register with the State Migration Service within 15 days of arrival. It is free online.
  • Passport too close to expiry. Your passport must stay valid at least 3 months after the e-visa expiry date. Renew before you apply.
